Purpose of the Compton P-ESL program
The Compton Pronouncing English as a Second Language program is an accent modification program for improving business, professional and social speaking skills. This program provides a better model for modifying a foreign accent in order to be understood better in conversational speech. Regional patterns and mild dialects are also reduced to improve overall communication skills.
How does the program work?
A client’s speech is analyzed to indicate how their pronunciation varies from Standard American English. This determines the number of training sessions required to achieve at least 50% in speech skills. A trainer teaches the client appropriate tools needed to discriminate sounds, pronunciation, complete word production and project the voice. At the conclusion of the trainings, a post speech analysis compares the client’s progress in their accent or dialect.
Trainers are certified by the Institute of Language and Phonology to teach the Compton P-ESL method.
